Successful small businesses are a combination of entrepreneurial determination, lifelong passions, and the dedication and grit that are typical of Michiganders.

There’s plenty of opportunity for entrepreneurs to make it in Michigan, and the state’s robust entrepreneurial ecosystem can support businesses through their journey by providing assistance along the way. Through the Small Business Support Hubs program, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has invested in this ecosystem, bringing new and scaled resources to Michigan businesses through a strong and effective partner network.

Discover an Ecosystem of Support

There are 27 Support Hubs across the state that help entrepreneurs navigate Michigan’s small business ecosystem and gain awareness of federal, state and local resources. These efforts include comprehensive programming and direct support to small businesses, whether it’s helping develop a business plan to secure funding, growing a customer base and industry connections, or hiring and managing employees.

The network offers this assistance through all kinds of programs and services, including:

Specialized, Localized Support

Support Hubs provide services to small businesses disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, generally operating in distinct geographic locations. This individualized focus allows locations to offer a wide variety of programming that reflects regional needs and local priorities. Regardless of business stage, industry, experience, or need, Support Hubs ensure businesses are connected to the right resources, whether available through the Hub or through a partner network connection.

Building Out Small Business Assistance

The Small Business Support Hubs build upon the success of the MEDC’s 20-member, tech-focused SmartZones, which are physical locations dedicated to incubating tech-focused businesses.

Many SmartZones have expanded offerings to include Support Hub services, granting greater access to the existing network of consultants, coaches, non-profit organizations, universities, lenders and community and economic development partners that help our state’s small businesses launch, stabilize and grow.
