The MEDC maintains a collection of site databases and profiles including CPIX, SelectSites, Michigan Business Parks, Renaissance Zones and Smart Zones. MEDC Site Specialists can help facilitate your location search by utilizing a network of site databases and profiles including surplus State owned properties.
The Michigan Commercial Property Information Exchange (CPIX) system, owned and operated by the Commercial Board of Realtors (CBOR), is a statewide database that lists 4,000+ commercial properties. Data is added by some 2,300 brokers and/or property owners and can include pictures, maps, site plans, surveys, leases and legal documents from which customized reports and maps can be produced. Property information that is not updated every 30 days is automatically removed from the system. CPIX serves to assist consultants and businesses interested in locating facilities in Michigan. A company's needs are determined through analysis of factors such as building size, ceiling height, truck loading facilities, location, utility requirements, and acreage for current needs and for possible future expansion.
In response to market demand, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has developed an online portfolio of sites designed to give clients and staff detailed and visual information on a selection of Michigan's high-quality sites, primed for development, with infrastructure at or near the site, buildings and land, fitting the client's needs. These site profiles can be downloaded and printed and are formatted to fit into a site proposal.
Michigan's Certified Business Parks (CBP) offer a guaranteed site plan, utilities available for tap-in, all weather roads into and within the park and parcels appropriately zoned for industrial and high-tech business. Certified Business Parks have protective covenants that require aesthetically pleasing buildings, appropriate signage and landscaping that enhances the quality appearance of the park. These covenants assure quality standards will be maintained as businesses develop in the parks, and allow the property owners/developers to enforce the high quality development standards with each new tenant. In addition, if the Certified Business Park is located in a Land Development Financing Act (LDFA) Authority, tax increment financing can be used to pay for public infrastructure.

Renaissance Zones are designed to provide selected communities with the most powerful market-based incentive - virtually no state or local taxes - to spur new jobs and investment. These incentives are available to any business or resident presently in a zone or moving into a zone.
SmartZonesSM provide distinct geographical locations where technology-based firms, entrepreneurs and researchers locate in close proximity to all of the community assets that assist in their endeavors. SmartZone technology clusters promote resource collaborations between universities, industry, research organizations, government and other community institutions, growing technology-based businesses and jobs. New and emerging businesses in SmartZone technology clusters are primarily focused on commercializing ideas, patents and other opportunities surrounding corporate, university or private research institute R&D efforts.
The State of Michigan has developed a central Web site for surplus state-owned properties. The goal of this site is to promote awareness of state land sales and to direct interested buyers to the agencies that have excess or surplus property to sell. You will find access to land sales or auction schedules, rules for bidding, and other land sales information on their Web site.
