Martin Dober is Vice President of New Markets for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. In his current role, he leads a team that is focused on federal funding opportunities for Michigan in the areas of alternative energy and defense. This includes a group of alternative energy technical experts in advanced biofuels, wind, solar, advanced energy storage, carbon sequestration, and water technologies. He oversees Michigan's Centers of Energy Excellence (COEE) program, a federal matching fund that provides grants for the commercialization of innovative energy technologies. He also directs the activities of the Defense Contract Coordination Center (DC3), a group that is charged with increasing the value of defense contracts in Michigan, and targeting specific growth opportunities including robotics and ground vehicle programs.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Dober worked as a specialist on economic development opportunities involving cellulosic biofuels, and before that was the alternative energy business development contact for the MEDC. He was the first person hired at the MEDC with a specific focus on the alternative energy sector.
Before joining the MEDC, Mr. Dober held business development positions in several small technology companies, including iRobot Corporation, American Systems Technology, Inc., and EIP, Inc. He worked as a technology business consultant for the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC), specializing in equity finance and government contracts. His career also includes experience in mergers & acquisitions at Delphi, finance at Chrysler, and manufacturing engineering at the Budd Company.
Mr. Dober received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly GMI).
